METAL WALL SCULPTURE

I was inspired to create my art after traveling extensively throughout Scandinavia where I learned the history, culture and art of Nordic nations, and Vikings in particular. In each of my sculptures you can feel the Viking ethos, powerful, yet tempered by grace and beauty.

Much of my inspiration comes from the medium itself. I am drawn to the inherent splendor and unique qualities of the metal and work directly with it. It is a complex and demanding process that is challenging physically, technically and aesthetically.

My art has evolved into two distinct concepts; one involves etching the metal with acids to create surface textures and imagery. This is achieved by working with a ground, or resist then acid etching a subtle relief into the metal. Another is a minimal approach based on a truth to the materials with refined relief work and intricate chemical patinas, assembled into patterns that are unique to each piece.

Wherever placed, one of my pieces will make a statement that defines the ambience of the surrounding space with its duality of might and elegance.
